The Battle Of The Plans
As of 14/05/07, Glasgow City Council has just launched a consultation on its plan, City Plan 2, which will run until June. A long plan, its abstract is 6 pages in length, and the plan itself has over 40 sections and 4 parts. The public have been given around 6 weeks to comment on a document that will have taken months to draft. Copies have only been sent out to business groups and to community councils to send in their comments (community councils meet monthly and are already usually snowed under with official documents so are unliky to get a chance to comment), with a copy buried in a few local libraries. Despite a press release hailing this consultation as the virtual begining of participatory democracy in the city it is highly unlikely they will receive many comments from the public. Certainly indicative web polls have suggested most people are unaware of the plans existence.
Not long after the consultation exercise however there was bad news for the council – a thinktank called Demos released a damning report into the council’s regeneration strategy, Glasgow 2020, the Dreaming City. This report interviewed 5000 Glaswegians about their thoughts on the city (more than are likely to engage with the council’s City Plan 2) we encourage readers to engage with both

Overview of the Council’s Plans for the City
The Glasgow Residents Network endorsed in November last year a plan to encourage the growth of genuine community plans which were not the result of ‘consultation’ exercises but were product of locals with their skills and in-depth local knowledge being brought to bear in a genuine participatory way to highlight how we could actually move forward in our communities, without being dictated to from on high. We aim to include tools to help Glasgow Residents do this on this site soon.

Hiya there,
What a fantastic site. Certainly add me in to any of your email lists and surveys etc.
I am wondering if anyone can help me find info on the local development within Yorkhill where I live. I am especially interested in what’s happening in regards to the Yorkhill hospital area, and plans for the area of the hospital that is going to be demolished.
Any links or sources of info would be good.
Thanks. Keep up the good work.

Hi there,
I’m a owner-occupier in one of the deck-access houses on Dundasvale Court. I’ve just received a leaflet from GHA today introducing their “Maryhill corridor local shared services”. Anyway, somewhere hidden under “Investment Team” they mention that they plan overcladding/re-roofing work on the deck-access houses in Dundasvale Court THIS SUMMER. Has anybody heard of any plans or has seen any projected costs???
Any ideas/comments welcome,
Cheers,
Carsten

Hi there:
I was hoping that people in the Network might sign up to support our campaign for the demolition and renewal of the deck access flats in Pollokshields.

Thanks very much,

Hi there
I am also a resident in one of the Dundasvale deck access flats. GHA recently held meetings to outline the proposals for improvements to be made to these blocks. They include new roof, new lifts, secure entrances and landscaping of the inner court; all of which are positive moves.
They also outlined two proposals for increasing the insulation to the flats which we are told we will get to vote on. One of these proposals includes glazing in the deck access and individual balconies which will completely destroy any remaining architectural merit that these blocks have. I had the very strong impression that residents will be encouraged to vote for this solution and no real discussion of the pros and cons of each solution will be encouraged.
Am I the only one who thinks these block have merit which should be safeguarded?
